Scholarship for academic year 2011 - 2012
Program Description
Kosciuszko Foundation Tuition Scholarships
support American students of Polish descent for full-time graduate studies in
the United States - all majors are supported. Special funding is allocated
for law and engineering studies at DePaul University; Bayonne, NJ residents
for studies in nursing, teaching and business; and residents of
Amsterdam, NY, Chicopee, MA and New Hampshire. The Tuition Scholarship program
also supports certain programs including the one-year Masters program at
the Center for European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow
and English Schools of Medicine in Poland.
Funding is for academic year September
2011 - May 2012. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,000.
Eligibility
United States citizens and permanent
residents of Polish descent who are beginning or continuing graduate studies in
academic year September 2011 -May 2012 and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Scholarships are given for full-time studies only. United States citizens of
non-Polish descent are considered when their studies are primarily focused on
Polish studies. Only one member per immediate family may receive a Tuition
Scholarship during any given academic year. Scholarships are granted for one
academic year and may be renewed upon re-application for a maximum of one
additional year.
Selection Criteria
Selection is based on academic excellence, the
applicant's academic achievements, interests and motivation, the applicant's
interest in Polish subjects or involvement in the Polish American community.
Financial need is taken into consideration.
Application Procedure
Submit a non-refundable application fee of $35 and the following materials:
- Completed Tuition
Scholarship application and Financial
Information Form. Application and Financial form may be downloaded
through January 4, 2011.
- A personal statement. In detail, discuss
your major and academic goals. Discuss your area of specialization and
your career goals and reasons for applying for this grant. A minimum
of three pages, double spaced. Include your full name,
"2011-2012" and page numbers on the upper right hand corner of
each page of your statement.
- Two passport-size photos for publication
purposes. Print your full name on the reverse sides. Xerox and colored
copies are not accepted.
- Provide proof of Polish ancestry. Use birth
certificates, passports, naturalization papers and other documents to show
the line of descent from the ancestor who was born in Poland to the
applicant. Include a cover page outlining your heritage. If documentation is
not available, a letter from a prominent member of the community verifying
your Polish ancestry will be accepted. Letters from relatives are not
accepted.
- Official transcripts for
the last three full years of academic work through Summer 2010. Fall 2010
coursework will not be considered.
- Two confidential letters of academic
reference from professors/teachers submitted on university letterhead, in a
sealed envelope and signed across the back flap of the envelope.
Unless university policy states otherwise, submit letters of recommendation
and transcripts together with your application and supporting materials.
- Graduating college students must submit
a copy of the letter of acceptance to graduate school. Graduate school
acceptance letters are accepted through April 2011.
- Re-applicants to the program need not
submit photos and proof of Polish descent.
- The KF cannot confirm receipt of
materials by phone. Include a self-addressed stamped post-card with
your application materials.
- E-mailed and faxed materials will not be
accepted.

Deadline Date:
postmarked by January 5, 2011
Notification of decisions are made in writing and sent to the
applicant's permanent address on or about May 16, 2011. A time-line
for Tuition Scholarships towards academic year 2011-2012 is available here.
Changes in subject area which are made
following scholarship decision notification may result in re-consideration or
cancellation of scholarship award.
